Music Together Puxi

Music Together is an internationally recognized early childhood music program for infants,
toddlers, preschoolers, kindergarteners, and the adults who love them. First offered to the public in 1987,
it pioneered the concept
of a research-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood music curriculum that strongly emphasizes and facilitates adult involvement. Music Together classes are based on the recognition that all children are musical.
Our Teachers

All of our teachers are passionate about music and the development of children. They have been formally trained by the founders of Music Together®, based in Princeton, New Jersey. They are fully apprenticed licensed Music Together teachers.

They create a fun, informal, social setting that spurs engagement and supports each child's musical development. Parents and caretakers will learn about the theories which underlie Music Together's curriculum from our teachers and can seek further personalized feedback on their child's particular musical development.

photo Julie Wu, Director

Julie Wu discovered the joy of Music Together here in Shanghai as a parent, along with her then-one-year-old daughter Angelina.  In the fall of 2008, she trained to be an instructor with Music Together founder, Ken Guilmartin.  She has been teaching to a growing number of families ever since, and took over the direction of Music Together Puxi in summer 2009 upon the repatriation of its founder, Lori Carbonneau.

Most recently from the San Francisco Bay area, Julie and her family have lived in Shanghai since 2006.  Julie spent most of her professional years in finance and banking, obtaining her MBA at Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.  Previous to her productive years were what her parents call the “lost years” – time spent in Hollywood, acting and singing and mostly auditioning. Her stage and television credits include roles in “Frasier”, “Beverly Hills 90210”, and “The King and I”. She ultimately left the performing arts to get a real job, and is now happy to be, once again, acting and singing with NO auditioning.

Growing up within a traditional Korean household, Julie was quite shy and reserved. It was only through her experience in the performing arts that she discovered the freedom and joy in play and creative expression. It’s that joy that she hopes to share with other families as a Music Together instructor.
